There are more than 1,000 listings in the guide. Everything from book publishers, to periodicals, to specialty markets like greeting cards, drama, and curriculum. Also included is an extensive roster of freelance editors, agents, and others who can help your writing career succeed. There is no other resource that is as comprehensive with regard to writing opportunities in the Christian market.
The Christian Writers Market Guide has been in existence since 1985. (That first print edition was only 240 pages with double-spaced type!) For nearly thirty years Sally Stuart compiled the book and watched it grow from a small volume to one with a myriad of entries. It quickly became an essential part of every Christian writer’s library.
In 2012 the Guide became part of Jerry Jenkins’ Christian Writers Guild and he kept the legacy going. For four editions he edited and expanded the book. Jerry is well known as the co-author of the New York Times bestselling “Left Behind” series of novels.
In mid-2016 Steve Laube, president and founder of The Steve Laube Agency, acquired the volume from Jerry Jenkins who wanted to focus more time on his writing and the development of the Jerry Jenkins Writers Guild.
Steve Laube is a 35 year veteran of the bookselling industry. He began his career in the bookselling arena and his store was named the Christian Booksellers Association (CBA) store of the year in 1989. He then spent 11 years with Bethany House Publishers. In 2002 he was named the AWSA Golden Scroll Editor of the Year.
The next year he became a literary agent and in 2004 formed The Steve Laube Agency. In 2009 he was named the ACFW Agent of the Year. The agency has represented more than 800 contracts over the years. In 2013 he was inducted into the Grand Canyon University Hall-of-Fame by their College of Theology.
He also serves as Publisher and Acquisitions Editor for Enclave, a division of Gilead Publishing. In addition he is the president of The Christian Writers Institute which is the publisher of The Christian Writers Market Guide.
The real work behind the Guide is being done by Lin Johnson, the administrator for Guide. She keeps the website up-to-date and keeps Steve Laube in line. Lin is a full-time freelancer whose business includes editing, writing, proofreading, and training. She is managing editor of Christian Communicator, proofreader of Israel My Glory, as well as owner and director of the Write-to-Publish Conference. The author of more than 70 books, Lin specializes in Bible curriculum and is a Gold Medallion Book Award and an Evangelical Press Association Higher Goals Award recipient.
